The company

A pool-making house, in Anglet, since 1999.

Étale studies, produces and builds pools and aquatic spaces. The same craft since 1999, for private residences, hotels and facilities.

Design, production, construction

Three words, three trades.

The signature of the house fits in three words. They are three distinct trades, and a pool that lasts needs all three.

  • Design

Before the first spade, there is a file: feasibility on the actual site, layout, working sections, hydraulics, water treatment, costing. This is where it is decided what the work will cost, and what it will cost to maintain.

  • Production

Part of the work is made before it reaches the site: stainless steel vessels folded and welded in the Anglet workshop, elements prepared to size, equipment assembled and tested. What is produced in the workshop is not settled in the field.

  • Construction

The site, coordination of trades, waterproofing, filling, balancing and commissioning. This is where the three trades meet.

Excavation of a large rectangular basin ringed with timber formwork, mesh reinforcement and a partly poured bottom slab, under a clear sky.
Concrete pool site: formwork, reinforcement and bottom slab being poured.

History

Five milestones, since 1999.

From the Anglet workshop to sites on the other side of the Pyrenees.

  1. 1999

    The Anglet workshop

Jérôme Bordenave founds the house in Anglet. The first pools are villa pools on the Basque coast, drawn one by one.

  2. 2005

    The first oceanfront hotels

Oceanfront hotels call on the workshop for infinity pools and terraces exposed to wind and salt.

  3. 2011

    Made-to-measure hammam and sauna

The house opens a second trade: hammam, sauna and whirlpool, designed with the same demand for watertightness as the pools.

  4. 2017

    Beyond the Pyrenees

The first sites cross the border: Spain, Portugal, then Morocco, often at the request of architects and hoteliers.

  5. 2024

    Design office and workshop together

The design office and the workshop come under one roof, rue des Calfats, to follow a work from drawing to filling.

How we work

Three house principles.

Saying them at the start saves everyone time.

  • Each pool is drawn for its place

The site, the house and the intended use drive the design. This design work gives the pool its shape, its levels and its hydraulics.

  • Costing comes after the visit

Access, soil, slope, distance to the plant room and water table level all weigh on a quotation. We survey them on site before putting forward a figure.

  • Discretion about projects

Works are described by their nature and place, never by the name of their owner. It is a rule of the house.

Area of work

Where we work.

Mostly the Basque Country, the Landes, Béarn and the Gironde, from Anglet. Beyond the Pyrenees, the workshop follows its clients in Spain, Portugal and Morocco.

Around Anglet

  • Basque Country
  • Landes
  • Béarn
  • Gironde

Beyond the borders

A cantilevered pool in Spain, a saltwater lagoon in Portugal, a patio pool and a hammam in Morocco.

Collaborations

With architects and design offices.

When a pool is part of a project that is not ours, we act as a specialist design office and as the trade contractor. Here is what we bring to the file.

  • Feasibility study

Layout, bearing capacity, site access, level and water table constraints. Delivered early enough for the architectural concept to still move.

  • Working sections

Dimensioned sections of the pool, the channel, the openings and the plant room, in the format of your file.

  • Technical specification

Trade specification written for tender: structure, waterproofing, lining, hydraulics, filtration, water treatment, heating, control.

  • Costing

Estimate by item at preliminary design stage, then a firm offer on working drawings. Differences between the two are explained item by item.

  • Site coordination

Openings passed to the structural trade, interfaces with heating, electrics and tiling, attendance at the site meetings of the trade.

  • Handover

Watertightness tests, filling, hydraulic balancing, water treatment settings, close-out file and operator training.

A project under way? Send us the drawings, and in one reading we will tell you whether the pool fits within the envelope.

Clientele

Who we build for.

Five kinds of clientele, and the same design office behind each. A hotel pool and a villa pool are not drawn the same way, but they are calculated with the same rules.

  • Private clients

Villa owners, for new builds as well as for the renewal of an existing pool.

  • Hospitality

Oceanfront, mountain and estate hotels, from the outdoor pool to the full spa.

  • Care facilities

    Thalassotherapy, rehabilitation and balneotherapy centres.

  • Public bodies

Public facilities, with the usage and compliance constraints that come with them.

  • Wellness spaces

Clubs and fitness centres, hammams, saunas and whirlpools.
