Cantilevered pool above a cliff
A stainless steel pool that projects several metres over the void, on the Gipuzkoa coast.

Infinity-edge pool cantilevered over a cliff, concrete and glass villa, Spanish Basque coast.
The project
For a villa perched on the Gipuzkoa coast, we drew a pool that overhangs the cliff. The swimmer moves towards the edge and sees the sea underfoot: water, metal and sky merge in one grey light.
The constraints
A full pool is very heavy, and the cantilever concentrates all that load on a few supports, in rock exposed to wind and spray. The elements also had to be brought in along a narrow track.
What we did
The stainless steel vessel was fabricated in the workshop, in elements assembled on site, and carried by a structure anchored in the rock. The waterproofing follows the movements of the whole. The plant room is buried on the land side, away from the edge.
