Arcachon Bay · France
Two villas, two mirror pools
Two twin mirror pools, water flush with the paving, on the edge of Arcachon Bay.
Overview
Infinity-edge pool facing the Arcachon bay, contemporary villa and pines, late afternoon.
The project
Two neighbouring villas, built together, each wanted a pool that disappears into the garden. The water is flush all around, with no visible edge: from the house you see a mirror in which pines and sky pass by.
The constraints
A mirror forgives no error of level: a few millimetres out and the reflection breaks. Coastal sand is unstable, the water table is high, and the two sites had to progress together without hindering each other.
What we did
The vessels sit on a drained slab, with a continuous overflow slot and one balance tank per villa. The edge stones were calibrated in the workshop, and the level was set with a laser before and after filling.
